Our Backyard Is Looking Sparse

coleusWe are now nearing the end of October and it’s getting a little colder every morning and soon we’ll be froze up for the winter again.

I put the last good picture of our coleus in the top left rather than show you how black and dead they looked after the first frost.

I saved a few clippings and have them growing in the house so I can start a new row of coleus again next spring.

Brought In My Lemon Tree

IMG_6473I am happy to say I remembered to bring in the lemon trees I put outside last spring. They were looking a little faded when I put them out but over the summer they grew a little, have more leaves and look healthy again.

I washed all the soil off the roots and planted them into bigger pots with fresh soil.

As the temperature drops I will have to move them to the living room where we keep it warmer during the winter.

Just Two White Petunias Left

IMG_6221We planted two windows boxes full of Petunia plants of different colours and placed them on the front steps.

We also bought one already in a pot as it was just the price of the pot. I put it on the back step so it didn’t last quite as long as those in the front.

At the moment and in the last week of Oct. we have just two Petunias left, one in each window box.

Next year we plan to start all our Petunias from seed. I did start some from seed this year but planted them too close to each other and they didn’t do well so next year I will give them more elbow room for growing.

I’ve Picked All The Pepper Now

A couple of days ago the forecast was for frost or close to it and I’ve been pushing things a little with our hot peppers and didn’t want to lose them so I picked all the rest. Some of them have already been chopped up and frozen for the winter and others I have started canning as pickles.
